NFBUK named 2017 Vision Pioneer Award finalist – Update

As we told you previously the National Federation of the Blind of the UK were nominated for the Campaigner of the Year award for their tireless work around shared space roads and controlled push button crossings and kerbs.

Unfortunately we did not win but we’re sure you will agree it was a fantastic and well deserved achievement to be a finalist and we received the following wonderful feedback from the judges:

Mohammed Mohsan Ali
Volunteer campaign coordinator at RNIB
“NFB’s work is amazing. I know NFB has been campaigning on this issue for a
number of years, and the amount of support they have given to blind and
partially sighted people across the country to stand up to get their voices heard.
The support that they have given, many people are fighting on many fronts to
ensure their local council will keep the accessible local environment for them to
stay independent in the local area.”

Irenie Ekkeshis
2016 Campaigner of the Year winner and founder of The New Citizenship
Project
“This campaign has consistently spoken up for those who seem to have been
ignored by the usual town planning processes. As such, they’ve raised
important questions about the validity and safety of shared space that otherwise
perhaps wouldn’t have been raised.”

Lara King
No One Alone campaign manager at Blind Veterans UK
“Great work progressing an important campaign, ensuring our shared public
spaces can be enjoyed by everyone.”
