Routing cycle lanes through and on the pavement at bus stops is not safe or accessible for blind people. This floating bus stops is one-way and level surface next to Blackhorse Road Station, in Walthamstow in London. People are riding in both directions, some at terrifying speeds.
The design looks like one that somehow made it into final version of the new Government guidance on floating bus stop published by the DfT in January 2026. We say somehow because the design was not in earlier drafts of the Guidance that went out for consultation, it just appeared in the published version. The consultation for the new Guidance was flawed. The Guidance is not safe and it is unfit for purpose.
