How We Meet
The NFBUK West of Scotland branch, covers such a large geographical area, it is not always possible for individuals to reach our regular meting point in Glasgow. Therefore, the branch will hold their meetings by telephone conference call – meaning that you do not need to leave the warm and safety of your own home to participate.
There are many issues facing blind and vision impaired people across Scotland and you may have some new ones you want to let us know about. No matter how large or small the issue is, we want to hear about it – as it may be affecting mor than just you! A recent example of the combined voice having success, relates to our petition to 10 Downing street, London, relating to the proposals by network rail to remove staff from ticket offices. The pressure of our petition and a successful court case, resulted in the Government directing network rail to rethink their policy.
We are pleased that our long running campaign “give us back our pavements” is bearing fruit e.g. Edinburgh city Council is the first in Scotland to introduce powers to ban parking on pavements and at dropped kerbs, with drivers being fined £100 for so doing. We hope many other cities, towns and local authorities will follow Edinburgh’s example and enforce this legislation.
Our meetings commence at 7 pm on a Monday and the proposed dates for 2024 are:
Monday 5 March 2024.
Monday 15 April 2024.
Monday 3 June 2024.
Monday 22 July 2024.
Monday 2 September 2024.
Monday 14 October 2024.
Monday 25 November 2024.
